There are not enough enthusiastic accolades to describe how great it was working with Eric Richmond, Architect and owner of Flat Rock on the design of our new beach house. Eric Richmond is a true artist plus he understands construction as well as any Contractor. Eric is a true joy to work with as his talented Assistant, Angela. Eric actually listens closely to his clients wants and needs and its clear that his ultimate goal is to build the house that the client envisions. He has no agenda other than making sure that his clients are happy. The design of our home, the over-all balance, the lay-out and the comfort of every room in our house was everything we hoped for and more.... Kudos and endless thanks to Eric and his talented staff. We are absolutely thrilled with how our house turned out and we are forever grateful to Flat Rock Productions for designing our dream house.

Working with Eric and the Flat Rock Productions Team is a distinct pleasure, and an easy recommendation to anyone interested in fabulous design and aesthetics. Eric is not only incredibly creative, but demonstrates amazing flexibility and problem-solving that makes it a delight as he is working with clients to achieve their vision for a home or business. A few years ago, our company, Whidbey Telecom, was embarking on a re-visioning of our "Customer Experience Center" in Freeland, WA. Flat Rock worked with us to turn an audacious vision into the reality of the place where everyone proudly wants to gather in town -- a true community communications center-point. Working with us collaboratively, Eric's design aesthetic transformed an old husk of a building into something truly extraordinary. The result? Simply stunning -- in fact, we have been recognized nationally as the epitome of a new way of engaging customers and community with a seamless, customer-centric blend of a warm, inviting ambiance, craft coffee shop, customer service, technology, conference room and more. All this while honoring our community values of green, eco-friendly and supporting our local businesses and crafts-folk. Since that time, we have engaged Flat Rock to transform an eye-sore building in Langley into a delightful and attractive focal point in town -- all while on a tight budget. Today, we are proud to share our 110 year company history there, engaging locals and visitors alike, and show off Langley as one of the northwest's only Gigabit Cities. And more to come as we bring our original 1913 office from its humble state into a historic destination -- again, with the help of the incredible Flat Rock Productions Team. The process of building our home, from the first brain storm sessions at Eric’s office to knocking out the final “punch list” was more than just fun….It was a blast! Often we are asked about our home building experience and often others share stories of stress and conflict during their own process. Partnering with Eric was the best decision we made and set the tone for a wonderful building experience. We interviewed many architects and even started down the design path with another group before settling on Flat Rock. Eric offers an incredible opportunity for anyone who wants their new home to be uniquely theirs. A glance through Eric’s website shows a wide spectrum of styles and aesthetics. Eric listens well. He worked so hard to make sure his skills and talents developed our dreams and ideas, rather than fitting our vision into his particular style as so often happens with other architects. My wife Molly and I and our three children have been in our new home for two full years now. We started the design process with Eric Richmond at Flat Rock Productions in the summer Molly was pregnant with our third child. Our daughter Tahlia came premature and we spent several weeks at the UW Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Lots of scary thoughts and concerns for a young family. I remember vividly when we unrolled the first drawings Eric had for us across Molly’s hospital bed. They were of the barn that we would build first and fill with belongings. The same barn I’m looking at now, its board-and-bat siding just being touched by the first silvering touches of time. I share that beginning, months before we broke ground, because so much of what we love and appreciate each day about our home is how much we enjoyed the entire process. So many fun and exciting moments shared with good people. Sitting on the hospital bed next to Molly we tried to decide if we should postpone the whole thing. If ever there was a moment to apply the brakes and delay the process, this was it. The excitement of seeing those drawings, the way Eric put our ideas on paper and made them seem real was the moment we decided to move forward. Take a walk from Eric’s office over to Useless Bay Coffee Co. You won’t get much time to chat with Eric because he will be greeted by so many local friends, so take the time to look around at all the custom glass, metal, concrete, landscaping and other artistic medium incorporated into UBC. Eric is well respected throughout the local arts community and we were excited to incorporate several of his ideas into our home including metal work, timber framing, concrete, and landscape design. It is easy to share the fun we had working with Eric and it's hard to stop writing while the images and memories are tumbling around in my head! Walking through your own home someday will bring memories and emotions to the surface. They should bring a smile to your face and a story to your lips. Eric truly loves what he does. I think anyone will find that his passion for the work, his easy manner and considerate nature will help create the same type of fond memories I am reliving as I sit at the kids craft table looking out at our silvering barn.

Eric and the Flat Rock team designed our restaurant space last year. From start to finish the experience was awesome. They took what was in my brain, put it on paper, and then made it a reality. Having Eric at the center of the project, with all of the other contractors and workers spinning in their various orbits, he kept the project on track and in line with exactly what we wanted. Eric also designed our logo, which is absolutely perfect. We could not be happier than we are with our second restaurant!

We had Eric / Flat Rock Productions design a 4500 sq ft home for us three years ago that we love! It is our favorite place in the world. Eric is great to work with as he listened to what we wanted in our home and thought of many special design features to take advantage of our great views and found room for extra storage. He also recently designed a 980 sq ft cabin that we are building in the woods to hangout with our grandchildren. We would highly recommend Eric and Flat Rock Productions.

A real estate professional highly recommended that we speak to Flat Rock when we bought our home on Whidbey Island. Instead of interviewing a few firms, we met Eric first and hired him on the spot--just seemed to fit. We hired Flat Rock to do a major remodel of our Master Bedroom/ Bathroom Suite from two small bedrooms, an outdated full bath, and several hall closets. The results were simply amazing. Eric took our ideas and came up with a plan that is not only timeless but offered us stunning views of the Saratoga Passage and our garden areas; thus filling our new space with natural light and beauty. And I would be remiss not to mention that he is an absolute pleasure to work with providing a really great customer/construction experience.

My husband and I would highly recommend Eric and Flat Rock Productions. We have worked with Eric in designing a beautiful Mediterranean style home as well as a Carolina beach house style home and both experiences were outstanding. Eric and his staff are very professional and creative. The attention to detail and the research that Eric put in to both of our house designs were magnificent. He also works well and has had experience working with many of the island builders. Our experience could not have been better.

Eric designed a visually stunning and highly functional home on a challenging site location overlooking the Olympic Mountains on Whidbey Island. The house design maximized the view out each window, doorway, and deck. The level of detail produced in the final house plans made for a smooth builder process. Flat Rock Productions is a first class design firm from start to finish. I highly recommend for any size or style project!

First Eric designed a guest house for us. Now he's designing the main house. He's a good listener and easy to work with. He uses your requirements and his knowledge to create the design. We're living in the guest house and excited to move into the main house when it's ready. We're very happy with the guest house and progress on the main house design.

I went to Flat Rock with a smaller house project and as the owner builder for my project. Eric approached my project very thoughtfully and listened carefully to my ideas and requirements of the design. The project finishes next month and his time and attention to my project is evident when I walk throughout the house. Additionally the drawing set he provided and his knowledge of materials and project costs proved to be invaluable during the construction process.

We worked with Eric and his team for over two years designing and building four town houses in Langley. His design, budget and attention to detail were way and above what I expected. We are working with Eric Richmond and Colleen Miller of Flat Rock Productions to design our home on Whidbey Island. Our first drawing was chosen! I was not expecting them to be able to so quickly comprehend our interests and create a thoughtful and creative design within our budget. We went back again when we made the decision to add a garage as the jumping off point for our total project. Again, an integrated and creative design emerged on round 1. Our neighbors are using them now to update the siding on their home. The creativity of their work extended both inside and outside. The work is unique. It is unlike any other project highlighted. I find this a very positive sign and look forward to moving forward. They are very professional, personable, and never pushy. We identified our timeline and then we chose to push it out further and they have been nothing but supportive and actively engaged when we call.

I worked with Eric Richmond and Angela Vosburg of Flat Rock Productions, who beautifully designed a 1000 sq ft cottage on our property for my father-in-law. It was such a pleasure to work with them. They made the overwhelming process seem like a piece of cake. They listened to what we wanted, and incorporated all of our needs into a beautiful design, and somehow made a small place feel roomy and comfortable. My expectations where surpassed. I will definitely be using them for my future projects.

Eric Helped us with siding and roofing ideas for our older, but contemporary home. We are exploring metals for siding on a residence which Eric has had experience with.
